Beaches and snorkeling in Zanzibar, Tanzania

Please read my previous post on how the trip started 😊

While I was looking for a hotel, one of the things that caught my attention was the fact that the owner has a private boat and the reviews I saw talked of how much it was a delight to have a private boat which would provide the flexibility the guests needed.
I mentioned this to the other ladies and everyone was happy with it + there was a variety of options of things to do. Snorkeling was top on the list, then an evening boat ride to watch the sun set.

This watch tower was in between our hotel and the turtle aquarium

My Recent Discovery for Glowing Skin

Have you ever wondered how some people have such beautiful and glowing skin? I have asked myself so many times. I am part of a group where some information was shared about this so I decided to try. I have done this for a month and I am loving the results so far.
The ladies were all about natural ways so the suggestions were to use homemade oils – coconut oil, lemon oil and carrot oil. There are different ways of making the oils but here are the methods I use to make my oils:

Coconut oil
-          Break the hard peels off the coconut then grate or blend (which ever works for you)
-          Soak in water for about an hour
-          Get the coconut juice/milk out by kneading (for lack of a better word) in the water
-          Use a sieve to extract the milk
-          Put the milk in a fridge overnight
-          By the next morning, the milk would have solidified, leaving the water underneath
-          Take the milk out and put in a pan
-          Use low heat while stirring to get the oil
-          The oil will come to the top while the milk would have solidified and will remain underneath
-          Sieve the oil and out and throw remains away
-          Allow to cool and voilà! You have your coconut oil

Idoma Ol'Adam

The last time I was in my hometown/village long enough to observe anything was eleven years ago.
So last year, my family went back for Christmas.
Benue, the food basket of the nation
The packing? The cars had to be loaded the evening before…two families were travelling together. So we had a minibus and another car to go with. It was a long, 8 hour, but smooth drive. We set off just after 6am.

I was quite disappointed with the final stretch of the road between Otukpo and Otobi. Normally, we have to pass through Otukpo to get to Otobi. Otukpo is a local government in Benue state and the most popular Idoma town/village. It is the local government which my villages, Otobi - my mum’s village and Onyuwei - my dad’s village, fall under. I have not been to my villages many times, but the few times I have been there, the thing that has always struck my siblings and I is the red sand (as we like to say) in Otukpo. It is still the same, the roads are largely untarred. Between Otukpo and Otobi, where we spent 5 out of 6 days, the roads leave a little to be desired. Erosion has eaten deep into the roads and to make it worse, there are so many potholes. The irony is that someone represents this very constituency at the National Assembly, and has been in that position for 15 years…story for another day!
