Youth Leadership Camp, FWC Abuja - Become a Better You

I spent the week of August 12th to 19th August 2017 somewhere in Abuja with over six hundred young adults, from ages 13 to 23. This camp was organised by the church I attend - Family Worship Centre (FWC) Abuja.

They thronged in as the gates opened!

Our society seems to be losing its morals and ethical values. Many times we question what we are doing wrong and try to push the blame to other. Until we take responsibility individually and collectively, the same problems might remain. The overall theme was 'become a better you' with the goal to teach these young ones that we all have a role to play. We all are leaders in our own right and should be the best version of ourselves.

The teachings and activities were based on seven pillars:
Discipline
Time Management
Goal orientation
Communication
Personal Development
Excellence
God consciousness

The Pastor overseeing the youth church of FWC - Josh Ochu

Leadership teaching - Elizabeth Taylor

Leadership teaching - Olugbenga Oyeniyi
There were leadership trainings and teachings, team work exercises where some were pushed to their limits, but forced to work together.
Trainings in smaller clusters

Exchanging ideas
There were frank talks on sensitive issues, sports, board games, dancing, singing and of course lots of prayers, bible reading and scriptural teachings. God consciousness was a core part of everything. Getting them to recognise God's power and guiding them to have Him at the centre of all they do, knowing that He loves us all unconditionally...Their energy was exhilarating!

Flash mob, the dances were so cool!

Mind blowing poetry!
I volunteer weekly in church to work with these guys. Other volunteers like me were there to organise and ensure that things ran smoothly. Being entrusted with over 600 young adults was some responsibility; it was all so intense but it was fun! By the third day, a few of us had lost our voices. However, for this, I would gladly lose my voice again!

There was a fashion show and OMG...it was wow! It was all about them. Nobody cared about height or size, it was a way of saying to everyone to develop self love no matter how we look. Also, we can dress decently but still be fly! Each person brought their own uniqueness to the run way!

She was super confident and got a present for the most confident one of all the contestants

We the volunteers were called up too! No prior notice but we had our chance to strut the runway! It was all so cool, amidst cheers and applause.

Yep, yours truly was not left out of the action!

Overall I would say it was successful especially as we already have testimonials from some of the participants of a boost in their confidence. We have also heard of some who got the needed motivation to be better by the things they have seen their peers doing and saying.

I am passionate about helping people maximise their potentials and grateful to work with these guys. As I watch them come into their own, I am certain that they are set to do mind blowing things.
